The society for the study of OSAKA COLLECTION
was inaugurated by Keizo Saji, Chairman
of Osaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Chairman
of Suntory Inc.);Ryotaro Nohmura, Chairman
of Taiyo Kogyo Corp.;Senri Hagio, the editional
executive of the Asahi(newspaper)Inc. Masaaki
Orime, President of KansaiJournal Co.,Ltd.
and others. This project was sprouted by
Hiroko Koshino's proposal for starting the
OSAKA COLLECTION in order to foster young
designers and creative people and finally
to activate Osaka. |
January 1987 |
The society made a report and appealed to
the administrative and economic organizations.
The points of it are as follows:1.The official-and-people-united
administration will be organized in recognition
of importance of the project for activating
Osaka. 2.The society aims at encouraging
young designers to grow to be the world-class
professionals. 3.It also aims at gaining
a position as the center of fashion industry
in Asia. |

The Preparatory Committee for OSAKA COLLECTION
Organizing Committee started. |
July 1987 |
OSAKA COLLECTION Organizing Committee was
organized by Osaka Prefectural Government,
Osaka City Government, Osaka Chamber of Commerce
& Industry, and Osaka 21st Century Association;
selecting Keizo Saji, Chairman of Osaka Chamber
of Commerce & Industry, for the Chairman.
As its expective organization, the Executive
Committee was established and Ryotaro Nohmura,
Chairman of Taiyo Kogyo Corp., took the position
as the Chairman. |
November 1987 |
The 1st OSAKA COLLECTION was held for
3 days at Mydome Osaka.Six designers entered.The
visitors totaled 7,000. |
November 1988 |
The 2nd OSAKA COLLECTION was held at Mydome
Osaka and Osaka Central Hall. Eight designers
entered. The visitors totaled 7,500. |
November 1989 |
The 3rd OSAKA COLLECTION was held at Mydome
Osaka and MID Theater. Following the spirit
of the World Fashion Fair (WFF) held in the
same year, OSAKA COLLECTION opened the door
to foreign designers, which resulted in
3 Korean designers' entry to make a joint
show. Ten designers entered on 8 stages
. The visitors totaled 8,000. |
November 1990 |
The 4th OSAKA COLLECTION was held at Mydome
Osaka and Osaka Central Hall. Nine designers
entered on 7 stages. Kansai Committee for
Economic Development joined in the Organizing
Committee.The visitors totaled 8,500. |
November 1991 |
The 5th OSAKA COLLECTION was held at Mydome
Osaka and MID Theater.Twenty-segen designers
entered on 12 stages . The visitors totaled
12,000. |
November 1992 |
The 6th OSAKA COLLECTION was held at Mydome
Osaka and Osaka Central Hall. To encourage
the young designers both at home and abroad,
the Committee collected the Japanese candidates
publicly and selected 6 to make the Japanese
New Designers' Joint Show. Also 3 European
young designers, 2 from London and 1 from
Paris, were selected and invited to make
the Foreign Designers' Joint Show. Seventeen
designers entered on 10 stages. The visitors
totaled 10,000. |
August 1993 |
Keizo Saji, the Chairman of the Committee
retired and Masafumi Ohnishi, the new Chairman
of Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry,
succeeded him. |
November 1993 |
The 7th OSAKA COLLECTION was held at Mydome
Osaka and MID Theater. Seventeen designers
entered on 8 stages . In addition to foreign
young designers from U.K., Austria and Morocco,
Japanese designers living abroad (in Paris
and New York) also participated in this collection.
The visitors totaled 8,000. |
October 1994 |
INTERNATIONAL FASHION FESTIVAL OSAKA(IFFO),
a commemorative event for the open of Kansai
International Airport on September 4, was
held from October 26 to 28 at Mydome Osaka.
In addition to new promising designers from
Japan and Korea, 2 noticed young designers
from U.K. gave a wonderful show(Oct. 26).
Above all, the special guest from U.K., Vivienne
Westwood attracted a great attention from
all over Japan(Oct. 27). A popular dance
team from U.K. took part of Fashion Collaboration,
the final party, on Oct. 28.Through this
term, Flood of Fashion ehis_img, a photograph
exhibition on computer screens, was held,
making IFFO a variegated cultural fashion
event. The visitors totaled 6,650. |
November 1994 |
The 8th OSAKA COLLECTION was held at Osaka
Central Hall. Thirteen designers entered
on 10 stages.One young designer from U.K.
and 2 from France (born in Turkey) took part
in Foreign Designers' Joint Show. The visitors
totaled 7,500. |
November 1995 |
The 9th OSAKA COLLECTION was held at Osaka
Chuo-Ward Hall, Mydome Osaka and others.
Seventeen designers entered on 10 stages.
Following the spirit of APEC(Asia-Pacific
Economical Cooperation Meeting) held in November,
1 young designer from New York, and 2 from
Korea took part in Foreign Designers' Joint
Show. The visitors totaled 8,000. |
November 1996 |
The 10th OSAKA COLLECTION was held at Mydome
Osaka and MID theater . Eighteen designers
entered on 9 stages. The visitors totaled
8,000. |
March 1997 |
OSAKA COLLECTION 97/98 SS was held at Mydome
Osaka. From this year OSAKA COLLECTION became
to be held twice a year by the co-operation
with Association of Total Fashion. Eleven
designers including those from Korea and
Malaysia entered on 4 stages. The visitors
totaled 5,000. To promote the business activity
of young designers,"Designers' Workshop"(joint
exhibition) was held at the International
Exhibition Hall during the period of the
collection. |
November 1997 |
OSAKA COLLECTION 98 SS was held at MID Theater
and Twin 21 Atrium.Thirteen designers entered
on 10 stages. Promising designers from the
Netherlands and Belguim participated for
the first time. The visitors totaled 9,000.
Designers' Workshop was also held at Hall
21, obtaining good results. |
April 1998 |
OSAKA COLLECTION 98/99 AW was held at ATC
Hall by the co-operation with Association
of Total Fashion. Eleven designers including
those from Korea and Australia entered on
4 stages. The visitors totaled 5,000. To
promote the business activity of young designers,
Designers' Workshop was held at the Umeda
Sky Building. during the period of the collection. |
November 1998 |
OSAKA COLLECTION 99 SS was held at MID Theater
and Coke Step Hall.Sixteen designers entered
on 10 stages. A lot of general audience,
in addition to buyers and press people,visited
every show; it means this event has become
a popular annual fashion event among the
citizen. The visitors totaled 7,000. Fifty-two
designers took part in the Designers' Workshop
which was held at Umeda Sky Building, obtaining
good results. |

Masafumi Ohnishi, the Chairman of the Committee
retired and Wa Tashiro,the new Chairman of
Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, succeeded
him. |

OSAKA COLLECTION 99/2000 AW was held at MID
Theater. Eleven designers including those
from Korea and HongKong entered on 7 stages.
The visitors totaled 5,000. To promote the
business activity of young designers, Designers'
Workshop was held at the Umeda Sky Building,during
the period of the collection. |
November 1999 |
OSAKA COLLECTION 2000 SS was held at MID
Theater. Fourteen designers entered on 10
stages. It was the first time to have a
member of Tokyo Collection, Hiromichi Nakano
participated. Designers from France, Germany,
and The Netherlands had the Europian Designers
Joint Show. The visitors totaled 7,000.
Designers' Workshop was held at the Twin
21 MID Tower, 18 designers participanted. |
April 2000 |
OSAKA COLLECTION 2000/01 AW was held at MID
Theater. Ten designers
including those from
Korea and Australia entered
on 6 stages.
In addition, Satoshi Kusaka
held an independent
show in Kyoto. From this
year, the Committee
began to hold both the
AW and SS collection,and
on the other hand the Association
total Fashion
became responsible to the
Designers Workshop
twice a year. Visitors
totaled 5,000. |

OSAKA COLLECTION 2001SS was held at MID Theater.
Twelve designers including those from Europe
entered on 8 stages. Visitors totaled 6,000. |
April 2001 |
OSAKA COLLECTION 2001/02 AW was held at MID
Theater. Eleven designers including entered
on 6 stages. It was also held
as the commemorative cultural program
of the 3rd Osaka East Asian Games from May
19 to 27,2001. Young designers from
Japan, Korea, China and Australia -
countries to participate in the ‚fames -
took part in the collection and made a great
success. Visitors totaled 5,000 |
November 2001 |
OSAKA COLLECTION 2002 SS was held at MID
Theater. As the 15th-year
anniversary, one
of the most popular young
designers in Japan,
who made the debut in Osaka
Collection in
1992, held a show and special
event. More
than 1,000 people visited
the Japanese young
designers' joint show,
which was held twice.

As a commemorative event of the "World
Cup Soccer Games" held in Japan and
Korea, young designers from both countries
held a joint show. This year, the "Japan-Korea
Citizen's Communiation Year", Han ahn
soon, born in Osaka with Korean nationalily,
participated, too. Two Chinese designers'
joint stage was held for the first time. |

As an opening event of Osaka Central Hall,
which had been repaired
for 3 years and a
half and designated as
the important cultural
assets in Japan. In addition
to the Japanese
big names like Hiroko Koshino
and Michiko
Izumi, 3 Japanese young
designers and 2 from
Europe participated. |

OSAKA COLLECTION 2003/04AW was held at MID
Theater.
In addition to the big
designer Hiroko Koshino,
2 domestic young designers
and 3 overseas(Brazil,
China and Korea) promising
designers held
2 joint shows, cutting
brilliant figures

Osaka but all over Japan. |
